Are you aware of the different types of Gastric diseases?

Gastric diseases are diseases related to the stomach, intestine, liver, and associated disorders.

  • Jaundice –viral hepatitis, obstructive jaundice, and biliary stone disease.
  • Ulcers – Peptic ulcers, Gastric ulcers, Esophageal ulcers
  • Chronic liver disease –  Liver Cirrhosis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Variceal bleeding, portal hypertension, Ascites
  • Gastrointestinal Bleeding (haematemesis/melena / fresh blood per rectum)
  • GERD– Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn, vomiting, and acidity)
  • Severe Abdominal pain
  • Dyspepsia (gas, bloating of the abdomen, distension of abdomen)
  • IBS- Irritable bowel syndrome (mucus in stools, loose bowel movements, constipation, chronic diarrhea)
  • IBD– Inflammatory bowel disease, e.g., ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease.
  • Elevated SGOT, SGPT levels could be due to chronic Hepatitis B or C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Loss of appetite/weight loss
  • Dysphagia- Difficulty in swallowing
  • Pancreatitis- Acute/Chronic in natures, it is an inflammation in the pancreas.
  • Malabsorption syndrome- may be caused by infection, medication, small intestine surgery.
  • Celiac disease- a gluten-sensitive 
  • Cancers of the esophagus
  • Corrosive injuries/ strictures of the esophagus
  • Oesophageal perforations
  • Peristaltic Disorders of the esophagus (Achalasia cardia)

  • Complicated gallstone disease (Cholecysto/Choledochal duodenal Fistula)
  • Choledochal cysts
  • Biliary stricture/ biliary fistulae
  • Post-cholecystectomy biliary injuries
  • Carcinoma of the head of the pancreas
  • Surgery in Acute pancreatitis (Necrotising pancreatitis)
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Cystic tumors of the pancreas
  • Surgery for Portal hypertension
  • Surgical obstructive jaundice
